Virginity is the ‘purity myth’ wrapped into whatever false ideals of beauty and cleanliness we have in our social structure. This is why we don’t even have a word for non-virgins. Lexical gap the ignorant like to fill up with slut and sex shaming vocabulary (or lack there of).

Chastity and virginity, as brilliantly stated by Virginia Woolf, is a strange fetish that somehow still pervades our culture.

You know what else is interesting about virginity? You lose it. You don’t lose anything when you learn to read or ride a bike or go to your first day of college or start work. Only virginity, because it’s seen as a bad thing, as something that you need to hold onto because otherwise you aren’t worth anything anymore. Also, at least traditionally it’s never used for guys. Ever. That use is really recent and it’s a joke 99% of the time. It is so sexist I can’t even believe it.
